What is a My Social Security Account?

mySSAfingertipsWhen you apply for Social Security Disability (SSDI) benefits, one of the questions the Social Security Administration (SSA) asks is whether or not you agree with your earnings statement. Many times, clients do not know what their earnings statement is, or how to get one. Today, the simplest way to obtain one is to set up and log into a MySocialSecurity account.

A mySocialSecurity account can be helpful to those who apply for Social Security benefits. Among many of the things that you can do with a mySocialSecurity account are:

  • Request a replacement Social Security or Medicare card;
  • Check the status of your initial application or appeal;
  • Get your Social Security statement; and
  • Get a benefit verification letter.

Perhaps one of the most helpful tools in the mySocialSecurity account is the ability to check the status of your pending application. You can now see the status, without remembering your confirmation number. You can see the re-entry number for any in-progress online applications or appeals; detailed information about the current status of the application or appeal; the location where your claim is being processed; and hearing information for your appeal.
